Interview with Simone Pond

Apple or PC?
Apple.

Do you use Scrivener or Word?
I start in Scrivener and when I have a solid draft, I switch to Word.

Do you have any pets? Do they influence your writing?
I have a Boston Terrier named Winnie (she’s my third one, so you might say I’m slightly obsessed). My childhood dog, Tiggs, is one of the characters in my first book, The City Center. Only her name is Rags in the story.

Would you rather see your stories on the big screen or the little screen?
I’d be delighted to see them on either.

Are you hooked on any of the shows on the sci-fi channel? If so, which one(s)?
I love, love, love Continuum. I reallllly hope they do another season. I’m a huge fan of Doctor Who (although this is on the BBC channel). I’m still sad that Firefly never came back.

Do you own copies of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings DVDs? The extended version? Do you ever watch them?
I don’t. Does this make me a bad person?

Have you seen the first two parts of the The Hobbit?
I haven’t yet. However, when I was a little girl I used to listen and read along to the storybook album over and over and over.

Are you planning to see the final installment?
Probably will binge watch them via streaming. Winter is approaching and I’ll need some epic tales to watch while cuddling under blankets.

Are you a Luddite? Or do you prefer to be on the bleeding edge of technology?
Great word. I love technology. Because of the internet I’m able to share my writing with people all over the world.

Are you--or have you ever been--a gamer?
No. I’m way too nervous and anxiety ridden.

What kind of foods do you eat? Are you a health-food-nut or is it strictly junk?
I’m mostly a vegetarian (sometimes I’ll eat some fish for extra protein). Monday through Friday I’m a healthy eater. Weekends, all bets are off.

Do you cook? What is your best/favorite/most popular recipe?
I don’t enjoy cooking, but I usually make a big batch of something on Monday to eat throughout the week. Tonight I’m making vegetarian chili. It’s probably my favorite.

Have you ever heard of or had a green smoothie? If you’ve ever had one, what did you think about ?
Yes. I live in Los Angeles… I’ve had several and every time they’re horrible. But they’re good for you.

Do you have a garden? Have you ever grown your own food?
I don’t but I like the idea of having a garden. I grew some tomatoes in horticulture class in high school. It was fun watching them grow.

Have you ever been to Starbucks?
Yes, many times. But I’ve decided to boycott them because they’re using a lot of toxic products. I prefer local coffee shops.

Coffee or Tea or Water?
Tea! I also drink a ton of water, but not because I like it.

Espresso, Drip, Instant, or French Press?
I don’t like coffee. I know, I’m crazy.

Bag or Looseleaf?
Looseleaf teas are always better, but I’m lazy so I buy bags.

Bottled, Filtered, Tap or Rainwater?
Filtered water.

Do you wear socks?
In the colder months.

What are you wearing right now?
Yoga pants and a t-shirt. This is my writer’s uniform.

How often do you wash your hair?
I get it wet every day (it’s curly and must be tamed), but I only use shampoo once a week.

Do you do your own laundry?
Yes. Unfortunately.

Does life fascinate you?
Absolutely! People are crazy.

What would your animal totem be?
Dog.

Do you recycle?
Yes.

Do you do Yoga? Meditation? or Deep Breathing?
I do Yoga twice a week.

Does it help you cope?
It reminds me that life is a process and that we never reach perfection. It also bugs me that I’ll never reach perfection. When I can’t do a pose, I curse my teacher under my breath.

On a scale of 1-10, how eccentric are you?
I’d love to say I’m highly eccentric, but that’s probably just in my head.

What’s your astrological sign?
Leo.

Do you consider yourself a slave to the muse?
She definitely has the upper hand.
